In today’s episode, I discuss leadership in engineering and how you can be a leader no matter where you are in your career.
Show Notes
* Back again at last, this is the Engineering and Leadership podcast
Over music
* Welcome to 6 of the Engineering and Leadership podcast, the show dedicated to helping engineers thrive.
* I’m your host, Pat Sweet
* In today’s episode, we reaunch the podcast, tell you a bit about what’s in store, and get this show going again.
* Buckle up! Let’s get this show on the road.
Music fades
* Hi everybody! Pat Sweet here. It’s great to be back with you.
* It’s been a while! How’ve you been?
* In fact, the last episode I released was back in 2017! Unbelievable.
* It’s been a busy couple of years for me.
* Moved
* Changed jobs
* Earned some designations – I’ll talk about those in a future episode
* Ran a soccer podcast for a while – lots of fun
* But this show isn’t about me – it’s about helping you!
* Let’s talk about the show and what I have planned for the next several episodes.
* First, since I haven’t had a show in a while, let’s remind ourselves what the show is all about.
* This show is about helping engineers thrive.
* It’s for all engineering leaders – even if you don’t have a formal leadership title (which is something we’ll get into in a future episode).
* In general, I’m interested in topics like productivity, leadership, management, professional development, and anything else related to thriving as an engineer and running excellent engineering teams.
* I get really passionate about big ideas like reforming the modern work place, but also more down-to-earth topics like how to run a meeting that won’t make people want to hurt themselves.
* You’ll notice that I really like the intersection between the technical world and the business and management world, so I’ll definitely be spending time there.
* As for what to expect for the next episodes, I’ve already got lots of interesting topics picked out that I’d like to discuss with you
* The productivity pyramid
* Rhythm and responsiveness
* Professional development as a way of life
* Leadership from any level
* Many more..
* I’ll release episodes once a week. One exception is that I’ve released two more episodes along with this introduction so that you have something to dig into right away, meaning you can just keep listening after this!
* There will be a mix of solo episodes and interviews, maybe even a panel or two. If you have anyone you’d like to hear on the podcast, let me know!
* Also, whenever I mention a tool, resource, link, or anything, I’ll add those to the show notes. I’ll post show notes at engineeringandleadership.com/episodeX. That’s also where I put music credits, a show transcript and all that good stuff.
* Lots to look forward to!
* Next up, the Engineering and Leadership mailbag
Mailbag music starts. Speech comes as music fades.
* This is the part of the show where I read your mail, comments, tweets and messages and answer your questions. I promise to read everything you send me, and I share my favourites here on the podcast.
* Obviously, I don’t have anything to share right now, but here’s how you can reach out for future episodes
* email: pat@engineeringandleadership.com
* Comments on the blog at engineeringandleadership.com. Especially good if you want to comment on a particular episode – just go to the show notes.
* Comments or messages on LinkedIn
* Please do write to me. I love hearing from you.
Done over outro music
That’s all the time we have for the show today.
In the next episode, we’ll talk about leadership at any level, no matter where you are, so stay tuned for that.
If you enjoyed the show, it would be awesome if you could leave a review for me. That helps me improve the show and helps others find the show as well.
If you want to read what you just heard, go to engineeringandleadership.com/episode6. There, you’ll be able to read the main content, and even download a full transcript of the show, including all the links and resources mentioned.
Until then, this is Pat Sweet reminding you that if you’re going to be anything, be excellent.
